How it started… from fb post of Ebony Evans

Hereโ€™s where it all started. Men wearing rompers was all over social media and I thought the trend was both stupid and hilarious. Shortly before this trend, EyeCU Reading & Social Network had recently branched out to our online book club, EyeCU Reading & Chatting, and I was trying to come up with a way to engage our readers and authors to have them interact. One day driving to work, the idea came to me to challenge our authors to freestyle stories on a trendy topic. I WAS SUPER GEEKED UP! I called Kaylynn and asked what she thought of the idea and she thought it was DOPE! In addition, she thought it could possibly help writers get their juices flowing. Thatโ€™s all I needed to hear. From then I reached out to a few authors and it was on and popping!

When we first started, Author Kaylynn Hunt would write the first story and then tag/pass the pen to the author she wanted to write next, and so on and so forth. Kaylynn has since started a new page so her original story isnโ€™t included here but, you get the idea. And as you can see Renee was one of the first authors to write and Kenya in the following week. For about 6 months straight, I used to blow these ladies inboxes up before it caught on. I went from reaching out to authors to write each week to authors reaching out to me. And 6 years later and look at us now! Making EyeCU Reading & Chatting Freestyle Historyโ€ผ๏ธ

About his new release

“This impeccably well-wrought fable proves what many of us have known for quite some time: Mark Matthews is the reigning king of modern psychological horror.”ย ~KEALAN PATRICK BURKE, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of KIN

Kori Persephone Driscoe suffered through her dad’s mental illness. All she wanted was for him to get better, but instead he disappeared. Kori trespasses into the abandoned Northville Psychiatric Hospital, the last place her dad was treated, seeking solace and traces of his memory. What she finds instead is something no longer human living deep in the underground tunnels.

During the last days of the hospital, a roque psychiatrist had been manipulating the mood swings of the mentally ill, transforming patients into savage, manic creatures who seek justice by the light of the full moon. When the creatures hunt for prey, only an escaped patient and her beloved child can help Kori survive–but they better act fast, because the creatures want blood, Kori wants to save her dad, and the whole hospital is about to be blown to pieces and bury Kori alive.

Powerful Memoir helping to transform lives by Detroit Judge #motownbookclub #motownwriters @judge_lloyd | @pamperry

Buy Book | Connect on Facebook

About book:

In 1949, twin sisters came into this world surprising everybody including their parents and the doctor because he heard only one heartbeat. On a path ordered by God, the twins touched the lives of many in their roles as teachers, attorneys, and judges. The rocky road the twins followed to achieve these professions was God’s way of preparing them for life. In Your Honor, Your Honor, author Judge Leonia J. Lloyd tells the story of this dynamic duo whose professional careers led them to become models, schoolteachers, and entertainment lawyers. Eventually, with their unique moniker, Twins for Justice, they became the first identical-twin district court judges to sit on the same bench at the same time in the country. Focusing on restorative justice, their careers were on a meteoric rise until the unexpected and sudden death of Judge Leona Lloyd put an abrupt halt to their successful lives together.

Lost and alone, Leonia was in the storm of her life; despair had an iron clad grip around her. She turned to God for guidance, and her prayers were answered. Your Honor, Your Honor chronicles her life experiences including her relationship with her twin, her struggles against racism, her account of the grieving process, and her stride toward justice.

In the book, Judge Lloyd, who is now retired, shares stories about:

  • The mental illness that her mother-Registered Nurse Mattie N. Lloyd-suffered after a brain hemorrhage.
  • The commitment that her father-auto body mechanic Leon T. Lloyd Jr.-demonstrated by keeping the family together to raise two successful daughters despite racism, his wife’s multiple personalities and breakdowns, and later, his struggles with alcoholism.
  • Situations that showcase her parents’ words of wisdom and actions that taught the girls discipline, perseverance, and determination to triumph over challenges.
  • Racial unrest, the 1967 Detroit insurrection, and how wearing an afro drew disapproval from her boss and colleagues at a job during college.
  • Examples of people whose lives were transformed by Drug Treatment Court and Project Fresh Start, for persons who practiced the act of prostitution.
  • How she led the creation and implementation of Michigan’s second Veteran’s Treatment Court.
  • Examples that illustrated how the powerful bond between the twin sisters could not be broken by death.
  • A powerful testament to the power of faith that provided the people, synchronicities, and strength to heal from paralyzing grief and carry on the spirit of her sister by making a positive impact on thousands of people during her tenure on the bench.

Your Honor, Your Honor makes a perfect holiday gift, as it delivers an entertaining, inspiring read that sparkles with wisdom and lessons about how to create a successful life, even when tragedies and challenges make that seem impossible. Judge Lloyd shows that with faith, anything is possible.

About the book

Kalif is everything his adoptive family wanted him not to be: treacherous, conniving, and coldhearted. As much as he wishes to please them, he canโ€™t deny who and what he is destined to be. The hot-tempered young man is indeed his fatherโ€™s son.

While off his meds, Kalif discovers the circumstances surrounding the brutal murder of his birth parents. In a matter of seconds, he totally snaps, ignoring the possible consequences. His rage and thirst for power increases. Deep off into the zone, Kalif develops zero tolerance for nonsense. Quickly, he rises through the ranks of the Motor City crime underworld, proving to everyone, including himself, he deserved the hard-earned title of kingpin of Detroit.

My Review

It was different to be in the male Point of view most of the time, but Ms. Michel Moore, pulls off an eloquent urban fiction that riveted me. I had to know was Kalif going to live by the past in his blood, or the passion he desired for the present.

You will enjoy this book and the many other books by Michel Moore and trust me there are plenty of urban of hers to read.

#MotownBookClub Review Feature๐Ÿ“š of @LaJefferson โ€˜s new literary release Reconciliation to Hell๐Ÿ”ฅ

Book Review from Reader
๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Great attention grabber in the beginning of the story which immediately gets you hooked on the story. This is a well written story about the complexities of the decisions we make within the family dynamic. Though the title suggests a sinister plot, the story is one that most adults can relate to or imagine in some fashion. As an avid reader, I recommend this book.

About Book
Sandra Anderson isnโ€™t the only woman on the planet to let her cheating husband come back home. But she may be one of the few who did so after his last mistress, Felicia, conceived his child. Still, she thought the life of luxury that he afforded her and their two daughters was worth it. What she didnโ€™t consider was the new role sheโ€™d play as step-mother and the ever-presence of the woman she knew still wanted her husband. At the first sight of dubious behavior by her husband, Sandra takes a walk on the wild side, making a few extramarital friends of her own. When someone begins blackmailing her with scandalous pictures of her and some of her friends, she quickly becomes the bigger threat to her marriage than her husband.

Lester Anderson is a lucky man. His wife forgave him for the ultimate betrayal. Sandra is the rightful woman to have by his side as he begins pursuing his longtime political aspirations. But old habits die hard. So when a woman from his past glides through his office door scantily dressed, Lester finds himself falling back into old patterns.

Can this couple survive their reconciliation to hell?

About Book:
Everyday Ethics and Equity: The Foundation for Character and Self-Esteem eloquently exposes inequities existing between the haves and the have nots.
It also advances the proposition that existence validates an individualโ€™s worth. This is especially relevant during these turbulent times of COVID-19, economic instability, and social unrest.

Written from a cosmic perspective and humanist worldview in easy-to-understand language, this insightful book helps readers to adopt ethical equitable behavior. It also promotes a race-free, war-free world and encourages self-reflective critical thinking.

About book

Raynard and Ike were two ghetto kids in the โ€˜hood. They came up normal as most, but close as cunt hairs.

Raynard was the oldest with the brightest ideas. He met Pat, an older female who was kind enough to offer him a place to bury his bone. As the years progressed, Ike went away to school while Raynard experimented with harder pieces of the streets.

Ike got a taste of the good life; reaped the benefits of an educated black man, but still couldnโ€™t resist the urge to line his pockets with drug money.
Raynard, who initially thought it was something slick about having live-in poontang, realized that she would always be older than he was. He learned faster that after a pint, Pat could get tougher than liquor store rib tips.

Raynardโ€™s coke habit kept him scrawny, amped up and frequently jacked up. As Raynardโ€™s nasal septum rotted, he found an escape from Pat and her plans for him to eat the seat out of her draws when he stumbled on a connect with blows cut with magic.

My Review

this book is about best friends, Raynard and Ike, the choices we all have to make as adults, but the effects of coming from an urban decay. Sometimes we do what we do, because its’ all that we can do.

E Scrill’s metaphors were in line with Iceberg Slim and definitely brought the darkness into the light when it came to the drug, the urban sprawl and what true friends really means.

Chasing It brings the realism of problems faced by living in proverty and the choices we make and we can all learn through Raynard’s eye just because it looks and feels nice don’t make it wonderful for you.

Even though I’m not such a fan of really rough storytelling, I think E. Scrill was almost giving Walter Mosely a run for his money. Good job!

About book:

Nicolette is a young black lawyer who struggles with the self as she wants to be seen. Her parents only see her as the child they raised, not the thirty year old woman she has grown into. Her friends see her based on their experiences with her: her sorority sisters as the girl that they pledged and crossed with; her law school friends as the smart girl that always near the top of the class; her high school friends as the shy, naive girl that they always tried to corrupt; her lifestyle friends as the strong, independent, dominant woman with undeniable skills; her sister-cousins as the little sister they never had that they have to protect and mentor; and her church friends as the pious Catholic girl. The men she dated mostly reduced her to their favorite body parts. Nicolette struggled with not living her life by othersโ€™ standards and expectations of her. She wrestles with the face that she can not be herself, her true self, around 90% of the people she know.

Can Nicolette work through her problems and learn to be the fierce person that she sees in the mirror?ย

Author Bio for Randy D Pearson
A lifelong mid-Michigan resident, Randy D Pearson has been creating stories for 40 years, usually in his head but occasionally on paper.
Starting at an early age drawing comic strips and cartoon books, he quickly realized he enjoyed writing stories more than he did sketching.
When he discovered his other childhood passion, the Atari computer, everything came together. He spent many late nights typing his stories, winning several contests in the process.
In addition to his three novels โ€“ Driving Crazy, Tell Me a Story, and Trac Brothers โ€“ Randy has been featured in several publications. These include all four of the Writing at the Ledges anthologies, The Washington Square Review, Pets Across America, and Retrocade Magazine.
When not writing, Randy spends his time watching British sitcoms with his wife and stepdaughter, or sci-fi and anime with his two brothers. He lives in a small Michigan town with a ridiculous number of cats.
